(eTA) Electronic
Travel Authorization—A new development
Warning: Starting March 15, 2016, visa-exempt foreign
nationals who fly to or transit through Canada will need an Electronic Travel
Authorization (eTA). Exceptions include U.S. citizens and travelers with a
valid visa.
If you travel before March
15, 2016, you do not need an eTA but you can still apply for one. For now, make
sure you travel with accepted travel documents and identifications such as a
valid passport.
Anyone who visits Canada must apply from
outside the country. Your friend or family member must first find out if they
need an eTA or a visa.
Starting March 15, 2016, an
eTA will be mandatory for certain visa-exempt foreign nationals who fly to
Canada. If they need an eTA, they can apply online.
